Wendi,

I'll do both that way if there should be come a problem accessing the server for some reason then you will have a copy of this already.

The reason I see a rheumatologist is b/c I have arthritis in my knees (left being the worst of the two). No, it's not related to the endo. I got the arthritis as a result of injuries that I got when i was 15. I didn't get diagnosed with the arthritis until I was 19. B/c of my arthritis yes I do sometimes get pain in my leg but the reason for the pain in my leg is b/c the pain radiates from my knee down in to my leg.

I don't usually have back pain but if I do it's in relation to my vulvar problems b/c of wearing the wrong kind of shoes. And no I don't have any lower back injuries like some with vulvodynia do.

When you go there you will go thru a detailed exam and may have to answer quite a few questions about your medical history when it comes to asking about whatever injuries you might have had in your lifetime and where. Then they will examine all your joints. He will press your joints in various spots (not too hard but if you say that it hurts any way it will give him a clue as to what to start looking for). After that he will run some different tests, one of them being an arthritis profile. It will determine if you have just osteoarthritis and some other things like rheumatoid arthritis. One of the other things that they will check for is Lupus b/c if severe enough it can destroy organs (a friend of mine is going thru that now).

Like endo it can take up to 9 years for a woman to get diagnosed. The treatments for Lupus are varied b/c of the severity. The same principle will apply to other arthritic conditions.

You will also probably be sent to have x-ray studies of your back and legs (MRI or CT Scan) to check for additional abnormalities. They may also do what is called a Bone scan (it's a test in the Nuclear Medicine Department-I've had it done twice and it's not painful at all, I will be glad to describe it in more detail if you like at a later date).

You will then set up another appt to follow up to discuss all the results and then start formulating a treatment course.

Check out: http://rheumatology.com (this is for the American College of Rheumatology). Let me know if this works. If not I will get the correct link for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
