Hi Vickie:

Yes, they do put you into full menopause. What you have to do daily is the following:

1. Make sure to take extra calcium the whole time you are on the Zoladex, as you will experience some bone loss, but usually it is irreversible, and the extra calcium helps tremendously...1,000 mg daily.

2. Try to take walks daily, or 5 times a week like I did, at least 1 mile a day, as walking naturally keeps your bones strong.

3. Buy a pair of 3 lb weights and use them 3 times a week, every other day, as even a small amount of weight bearing helps keep bones strong.

4. There's not much you can do about the hot flashes, but they will go away once you stop the shots.

5. I had some hair loss, but it stopped after the shots, and came back, so it was just distressing, and short-term.

6. The one and only good thing about the Zoladex is that I lost about 15 pounds every time I was on it...had very little appetite. My doc said that I was lucky, and that meant that when I go into menopause naturally, I may lose weight (I hope).

As for back to normal after the shots are done? Everyone is different, but my period usually came back within 2 months and all the symptoms disappeared, but for me, my endo was very persistent and came back each time within 6 months. But for others, it can help long-term...everyone is different how they react to every treatment.

I hope my experience helps you just a little.

Pain-free wishes,

--
Marcia
