endometriosis and depressionFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon Apr 30 17:49:58 2001
I am 32 years of age. I have triplet girls 9 years old. I suffer from depression and severe P.M.S. I have suffered with this since my periods began at 12 years old. I have taken Prozac Zoloft, Paxil and Serzone for the depression. Iwas okay on Prozac until I started experiencing severe heartburn. I then tried different anti-depressants all of them causing heartburn. I think the fluoxetine hydrocloride does not agree with me. I was diagnosed with widespread endometriosis in 1989 and there started a cause and effect pattern. Endometriosis--- birth control---depression---prozac prepulsid---hiatus hernia operation. I don't do well on medication, I seem to have a sensitive stomach, about the only thing I can take is the birth control pill. However I am suspicious that the birth control may be causing my depression/P.M.S. symptoms. I have had many years of psychotherapy and by all accounts I should be a happy person. There is essentially no reason for me to be depressed unless the birth control is causing it or contributing to a predisposition that I already have. When I was pregnant with the triplets I was the happiest and calmest I had ever felt. The next time I had this happy/calm feeling was when I was taking Prozac.I would like to find out if there are any new treatments for endometriosis because without the birth control pill the pain lasts all month and is severe. I would also like to know if I have clinical depression, hormone problems or some other problem that is causing my depression. If it turns out that nothing can be done about my depression and it is something I'm going to have to accept then I will accept it. I did however want to give it one last shot at possibly finding out what is wrong with me. If you could help, I would greatly appreciate it.
