high risk for Downs SyndromeFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Apr 6 17:17:59 2001
I have just received the news, following an AFP blood screening test, that I have a greater than 1 in 4 risk of my baby being born with Downs Syndrome. The consultant told me that results showing this high a risk are rare, and I opted to have an amniocentesis immediately. I am 37 years old. What are the chances of the lab making a mistake? I can not understand how the risk could be so high. What other factors could have affected the results? Any information you could provide would be gratefully received.
