Second, I would find a new OB/GYN!!!! Sounds like you may need a diagnostic laproscopy.

Hello Ladies,

I'm usually nervous about posting to web sites but you all seem so supportive and sincere that I'm going to take the leap.

I have been dealing with a frustrating situation for about two years. It began when I started having episodes of mild pain. Always in my right side and the onset was always at night. This continued to get worse so that I started to keep records. The pain would come about every 5 or 6 weeks. It always started at night and lasted about 6 ot 8 hours, always in my right side. It felt like a hot poker was going through my body front to back right at my waist.

The situation has become progressively worse. The episodes are still spaced 5 to 6 weeks apart (although the last was only 3 weeks). The pain has now become crippling. Darvocet, Vicoden (left over from knee surgery) hardly work at all. The pain goes from my back to my front, radiates down into my groin and at its worst shoots down my hip and thigh. I can now have dull pain for a week with a second, smaller attack several days later (I call them after shocks). I am now left weak and ill for at least a week afterwards. I always have a dull ache in my back.

I've had many tests: pelvic ultrasound, 2 CAT scans, barium enema. ALL NEGATIVE.

In terms of medical history: I'm 45 with 3 children. As a teenager I had horrible cramps - only able to control with narcotic pain meds. After having first child (18 yrs ago) my cramps really settled down. Now my periods are painful but manageable. I've been treated once for endometrial hyperplasia. Here's where some of you will yell at me (and I deserve it) but I'm a smoker so can't take birth control which is what my very unsympathetic OB/GYN recommends.

I've just switched to a new internist hoping he might be of help. To be honest it seems like all the doctors I've been working with had to take a test to make sure they had NO SENSE OF HUMOR before they were allowed to go into practice. ER doc said I should just go to pain management but my husband says no way something that hurts this bad can't be right and we have to find out what's wrong.

To all of you who suffer so much more than me I'm so very sorry for your pain. You've helped me to feel grateful. At least I have some good weeks spaced between the bad.

Has anyone experienced symptoms like mine and could you give me advice?
