Re: Difficult Decisions... How do you know what to choose? From: B. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Mar 31 01:31:19 2001
Michelle, There are not many women, that have done as much research and at the depth that you have done with all the hormones. The GnRh antagonists hormone therapy is most useful while you are waiting for surgery. The pill is a good way to manage your endo and to stop it from getting any worse but this doesn't always work and you may need to try many pills, just to find the one which suits you and your body. The pill is a good way to prevent osteoporosis. There are other side effects, from some of the other hormonal treatments or therapies ( like Danazol which is known to deepen the voice and cause extra facial hair growth and also putting on alot of extra, unwanted weight, acne extreme mood swings, hot and cold flushes/flashes) and these symptoms can be just as bad as the disease and sometimes they can be worse than the disease itself, so it can be a difficult decision, as you are already experiencing It can be all very confusing, as you have also found and if there was one, easy way then we would all be lining up for it. My suggestion to you is to find a good endo surgeon and have as much of the disease cut out of you (excised ) by a laparoscopy and then you can take the pill to control the disease or even natural therapies after surgery or the pill and if you need pain relief on top of it, you may need to see a pain management doctor or pain specialist, like many others of us, have to do. I would not be jumping into having a PSN, especially with just any doctor, this is a specialized procedure. I would only trust one of the worlds recognized endo specialists with this procedure, well a recognized one anyway but this is my opinion only. Good luck with what ever you do. Pain Free Wishes, Belle
>----- Original Message ----- I have been reading anything I can get my hands on to help me in the decision of which treatment is best???? Lupron makes me crazy, I'm afraid of taking Danocrine, I'm too young for a hysterectomy, and the birth control pills aren't stopping my pain. A presacral neurectomy has been recommended by one doctor. How can a "lay person" like me learn enough to make the right decisions?? I have read journal articles about PSN over and over just to make sure I understand the possible risks and outcomes. I'm torn about what to do because of the controversies and differences of opinions between doctors. How do you know who to trust... who to listen to for guidance? How do you make these decisions?? Please help!
