Looking for answers - very long postFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Mar 12 12:43:31 2001
I've been reading these posts on this forum for the last couple of weeks. I would first of all like to say that this forum has been a great source of information and comfort for me. I am 28 years old and have had a sudden onset of pelvic pain over the last two months. This started with what I thought was a bladder infection. I have what feels more like irritation and pressure on my bladder. I did not have any of the other symptoms of blood in my urine or any burning. It turned out that I did not show any infection and was then sent to my OBGYN. I saw the nurse practioner at the OBGYN's office, who could not find anything and was sent back to my PCP once more. He did a sonogram which found a small amount of fluid near my right ovary, but everything else looked normal. He then sent me to a urologist, who was unable to find anything either. It was then decided that I needed a joint laprascopy and cystoscopy to take a closer look. Around this time, the other symptoms started. It started after I had somewhat painful intercourse with my husband. The following day I started having pain around both ovaries that shot down my legs as I walked. Since then this pain has remained with me, although, sometimes it is just a dull ache. I've also suffered from extreme fatigue, some nausea and lower back pain. I've also noticed that during my last menstrual cycle, my cramps were not normal. Instead of having the regular cramping in the middle, I suffered from the pain on both sides. Does anyone know what to make of that?? My history includes a very large cyst on my right ovary in 91. They tried to go in with a laprascopy to view the cyst and nicked an artery on my bowel wall. They then had to open me up and repair the artery and remove the cyst. Six weeks later I was back in with severe pain from a bowel obstruction. I had 5 feet of my intestines removed and had a resecction performed. I have had no problmes since that time. I had no problems getting pregnant and delivering my daughter in 95. My periods have been normal for the most part. Occasionally, my cramps have been bad, but never enough to put me to bed. I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclen for the last 4 years and other than migraines every cycle, I have had no problems with that. My periods are still somewhat heavy and still last 7 days on the pill. I did notice that the last few months, I have been getting more leg cramps along with my menstrual cramps. I am scheduled for the cystoscopy (to view my bladder), and an "open laprascopy" tomorrow. They are looking for either endo, IC or adhesions from my past surgeries. The doctor is concerned with my history and does not feel like he can do the laprascopy blindly. Has anyone had any experience with this and how it differs in recovery time, etc? He said I will have to spend the night in the hospital, but will still be able to return to work in a few days. I'm sorry for going on so much. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
