Re: Pain Killer AddictionsFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Mar 7 21:18:04 2001
Anon, I don't have any advice to give you, but what I can tell you is that from my own experience with the need for pain meds I don't worry about addiction being a problem even though my dr does. I take Lortab for my pain problem, and the biggest reason for my pain problem is from a secondary female problem called vulvodynia. The reason that I'm not worried about addiction being a problem for me is b/c I have a legitimate pain problem. My dr wanted to send me to Pain Management for an evaluation b/c of being afraid that I would get addicted, but the Pain Management drs here in my area won't touch me b/c of the fact that I do have gyn problems. Also, I have another situation that I have had to work with. I have other health issues that won't allow me to take the longer acting and stronger pain meds such as the Oxycontin, MS Contin, and Duragesic. These drugs as well as anti-depressants has the potential to cause seizures if I were to take them. Even if I didn't have a seizure from taking those drugs I also have to worry about the side effects of drowsiness, and dizziness just to name a couple that would keep me from functioning. I have had to fight to keep the pain med that I take to help me with my vulvar flare ups and now the endo b/c it along with the anti-inflammatory drug Ponstel b/c I don't have the side effects that could keep me from functioning. With these meds I'm able to function during these flare ups. Without these meds the pain from the flare up is severe to totally disabling. I have tried anti-convulsants for an unrelated problem that sent me to Pain Management back in 1998 and in to 1999. Only problem was that the anti-convulsant, and anti-inflammatory drug that I was taking for the unrelated problem didn't help my female problems at all. I can't do the non-medication treatments that Pain Management offers either. If you would like to know why I can't do them also please e-mail me off the list and I will tell you why. Take care and I wish you all of the best with trying to get some relief from your pain, etc. ===== Kristy :) http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Falls/4659/kristyspage.html Get email at your own domain with Yahoo!
