Endo and work (long)From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Mar 1 11:56:30 2001
After a few months of mid-cycle spotting and irregular periods an ultrasound was performed. There are three hemmorhagic cysts? or endometriomas? or ?? living on my left ovary. I'll be 38 next month and have had PMS and painful periods since college. The dull constant pelvic pain starts about 7 days before my period and the pain worsens after urinating or moving my bowels. The pain gets progreesively worse as my period nears and then I have cramps for the first 2 days. Lately there has been a periodic burning sensation below my belly button during my PMS stage. I get very cranky because I don't feel well or sleep well before or during my period. Anyway, a second ultrasound was performed a month after the initial and the things on my ovary are unchanged. We are now going to attempt to shrink them with a low dose of progesterone (mini-pill), but I think that we all know where this is going. If the things don't shrink in two months, I'm going to surgery. Except for the PMS stuff, which I've pretty much ignored until now, I've never really been sick before. I'm getting very worried and now there is the possibility of surgery (scares me to death) looming in the future. I'm very irratable from not feeling well and from the stress and I'm sure that I'm not the most fun person at work. This morning I had to give a talk at 8 am (after having Motrin for breakfast and running out of the house before having a chance to walk my dog) . Afterwards my boss commented that my presentation lacked enthusiasm. Normally, I'm not the most bubbly person in the world but since this started I've been less bubbly. I'm now wondering if I should tell my boss what is going on. He is a doctor and I don't feel uncomfortable telling him that I've been unwell, but I'm not sure if this is appropriate at this time. On the other hand, if this is affecting my performance at work maybe he should know. Anyway, I was wondering about how you guys handle this issue. I do research and work in a hospital, so everyone is very familar and comfortable with sickness--except I've never been a patient before. Thanks
