Re: Heather BlueFrom: Marcia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Feb 28 12:26:14 2001
Hi again Heather: I'm so glad you're seeing your new doctor tomorrow. It's a little late to ask, but have you kept any kind of a pain diary to show him/her?? You may do this already, but it good to have things written out you want to say and ask, because if I don't do that, I forget sometimes til I'm at home and then whoops!! I forgot to ask this... It helps too when you go in and tell them the level of your pain on a pain scale, i.e., 1-10, like Belle's Pain Scale -- did you see it? You should try to print it out to take with you. You know your body best, and if you feel like you need another lap, let him know. Since you have IBS like me, they really do need to look around your bowel area and cul-de-sac, that's where mine is, and it can be so painful, I know. I can't believe they didn't look there before!! So perhaps they will consider another lap for you, done the right way -- and ask for excision, not laser, as laser only gets part of it. At the moment, my pain level is a 2-4 on the pain scale, which for me, is manageable. Just a month ago, on bad days, it was 6 or 7, and if I don't take my pain meds every day, it comes back to bite me hard. I am still taking 1 Aleve in a.m. and ½-1 Vicodin in the a.m., which holds me til the afternoon, when I take more after I'm not at work. However, the times before when I have been like you, with the really really really bad pain (9-10+), this is what I did: I asked my doctor for something less strong in the morning and he gave me Darvocet N (did you say that didn't work for you??) and then in the afternoon I would load up on 2 Vicodin every 4 hours and right before bed. I then had enough Vicodin in my system from bedtime to get me through the morning when I had Darvocet. The Darvocet didn't knock me out, like the Vicodin. Also, until I had my last surgery, I had to take afternoons off with a doctor's note, with disability forms filled out in Human Resources to protect my job. I couldn't sit at my desk either, or even walk to the bathroom without being hunched over. This sounds like you are now. I sincerely hope your new doctor respects what you say and how you feel. I'll pray for the best for you!! Yes, I hope to have surgery with Dr. Redwine in Oregon. I just got his letter back, and now I have to try to get my HMO to pay for it. It doesn't look hopeful. At the worst case, I may have to wait til next January (oh god) to change insurance. Like I said, my pain is controllable now, but I am so tired of pain pills, tired of being tired all the time (on weekends, I sleep half the day away), tired of not being able to be with my husband because it hurts. Sorry to ramble on so -- my thoughts are with you Angel :) :) Take care tommorow Marcia
