Late Ovulation?

I am 28 years old and have always had very regular periods. My cycle is usually about 28 days long and my periods last about 6 days. I have never been on birth control pills. Well this month several days before my period was due I became very convinced that I was pregnant. I had so many symptoms of pregnancy such as sore breasts, nausea, fatigue, water retention and increased hunger. I have two children and know what it feels like to be pregnant. I've never really worried about when I ovulate because I became pregnant the first month I tried with both of my children. I took a Home pregnancy test when I was 3 days late for my period and it came back negative. When my period was 4 days late I started spotting then I bled for 1 day but the bleeding was much lighter than my normal period and then I spotted for another day then I was done. With just one day of light bleeding and 2 days of spotting. I have never had a period like this before. I waited a few days and took another HPT and it was still negative. I still have all the symptoms of pregnancy that I mentioned above. I have heard you can get false negatives with HPTs but I have used several different tests and always first thing in the morning. They are all unmistakably negative. When can I rule out pregnancy with an HPT? If I'm not pregnant what else could be wrong? It is okay to feel this way if I'm pregnant but not if I'm not!
