>One quick remedy if you are worried about constipation before, for instance, an internal examination, is glycerine suppositories. You're supposed to keep them in for 20 minutes but I don't find I can manage even that long. Long term, you need enough of the right kind of fibre - I'd avoid wheat for this (ie: don't add bran to your diet) but would have lots of pulses and root vegetables instead. Tincture of cascara, marshmallow and liquorice (1tsp x 3 per day for six weeks, followed by a week's break) may help. Take it in warm water. Linseeds (whole) are good, as is linseed oil in capsule form, and finally, try psyllium husks.
