Re: -ovarian remnant syndrome & endo ( CA-125 )From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Jan 31 05:12:25 2001
Hi D.N, The Only time a CA -125 gives a false positive for cancer in an endo sufferer... is when the endo sufferer has active endometriomas. I have just recently discussed this exact matter with my endo specialist..as I requested a CA- 125 and he didn't want me to have it, as I had didn't have any endometriomas, only simple ovarain cysts but I feel we should all have the option , if we so desire to have this test, even if it is just for peace of mind, as it can save a life....with a prick of a needle. I just had to add this bit of information, as I really feel its important to all of us. Best Wishes, Belle.
>----- Original Message ----- Hi Cathy, I am sorry to hear that you are having such problems. I don't know if you know or not but having a CA-125 to check for ovarian cancer will be difficult since you have endo, the endo will usually result in a positive test. So it doesn't help much with the cancer thing. Have you had a transvaginal ultrasound? This sometimes will show if you have cysts forming. Also, if you think you are cycling/ovulating try taking your basal body temp everyday and chart it. You might be able to try continuous BCPs or Prometrium to help if you do have a remnant left. They worked for a while for me, but I had to stop because of migraines and depression. Now I am on nothing and my cycles are getting more painful. I am not sure if I am going to try Syneral or not at the point. As far as fibromyalgia (sp?), I don't know. I know if you are not getting adequate sleep (from my experience) you probably will feel more pain. With IBS, I was misdiagnosed with that before my hyst. I didn't really have that it was the endo. Please write again if you have more questions. I wish you the best.
