Re: Adenomyosis. Live with the pain or have Hysterectomy? From: suzanne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Jan 20 18:40:12 2001
Cristen, I too suffered from adenomyosis, only I did not receive a dx before my hysterectomy. Unfortunately, my doctor was way off base - he dx me with ovarian cancer (due to ovarian tumors) and fibroids. A hysterectomy was ordered immediately. When I awoke, I heard a new word - endometriosis. I had severe invasive endo, adenomyosis and severe dense adhesions. My female organs were all retroverted and fixed to my spine. You are lucky in that you have dx of adeno, but the final dx is removal and pathology of the uterus. I was 39 when I had my hysterectomy, I had two children ages 6 and 8. I have found great relief through the removal of my uterus from the adenomyosis symptoms. But his doc also removed both my ovaries and that has prosed quite a problem for me. Please know that hysterectomy is a cure for adenomyosis, but it is not a cure for endometriosis. Please consider all your options and do all your research before submitting to hysterectomy. If there is any thing else I can do to help, please let me know. I know the pain you are going through and hope you find relief.
