Hi Char, It Depends whether you are having a laparoscopy or a laparotomy..If you are having a laparoscopy( between 2 and 5 cuts are made ..where the instruments are inserted), then yes a bowel prep is necessary..I would have a bowel prep for both these surgeries buts thats my personal decision and its not as necessary for a laparotomy ( which is a full incision.)
