A bowel prep could consist of a clear liquid diet for two days before surgery or it could consist of other things. With my first surgery I had to drink a liquid mixture called Go-Lytely, and with the second one the prep required me to drink a product called Magnesium Citrate. The purpose of this is to clean the bowel before you have surgery so that there won't be complications such as puncturing the bowel (did I do ok at trying to explain this Belle?).
