It is too bad that you didn't go tot he clinic when you had the first
opportunity. It is my experiment that GYNs are not the ones to go to for
proper pain management. I see my family doctor for that because she is more
familiar with it, more comfortable doing it and I am able to get into to see
her more easily than my GYN. If you are still able to get a referral to a
pain clinic and still experience ongoing pain I would suggest that you do
so. They typically are able to provide a wide range of possibilities for
pain management, including narcotics if appropriate. They will be able to
provide you with the most up-to-date and most useful treatments for pain
management that are available. They also offer support groups and usually
some non-traditional options such as acupuncture, massage, etc. It would
certainly be worth your while if you still require treatment for pain.
You are fortunate to have a clinic that you can go to. I do not have a
clinic to go to in my province so I have to relay on my family doc.
Thankfully she has a great deal of experience in Palliative Care, which
requires a great deal of pain management, so I am being managed reasonably
well by her. I still don't have the resources available to me for more
up-to-date treatments and more advanced treatments that a pain clinic could
possibly offer. As you can likely tell I am a huge advocate for pain
clinics and hope that I can make it possible for one to exist in my province
in the next few years.
