about the herbs - please readFrom: Vanessa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 13 11:25:51 2000
I should have clarified a bunch of things with regards to herbs in my earlier post. I did mention that I am NOT a doctor or an Herbalist - I used myself as the guinea pig with the herbs and sort of learned as I went along. I did pick up a few insightful things, however, that you might be interested in. Firstly; though most traditional doctors aren't into the 'alternative therapies' idea - in fact; many of them will claim that herbs do nothing for you or they may not know a whole lot about them. Still; if you are on hormone injections, powerful medications, or have heart or thyroid problems - it'd be best to consult your doctor FIRST before taking the herbs. You can also consult with a professional herbalist - see your local health food store for references to them. Secondly; if you suffer from hay fever and allergies - you should steer away from some herbs. If you don't know which ones, then you need to pick up a book about herbs and read it BEFORE experimenting with herbs. Echineacea is a common herb taken during flu season as it helps to build up your immune system and what-not; but people with hay fever should not take it! (and that's only one example). Thirdly; there are many herbs with are natural forms of Estrogen. Red Raspberry Leaf is only one of them...there are many more. You need to consider the pros and cons of taking the estrogen related herbs, as most of us with Endometriosis already have marked Estrogen levels. I've read studies that claim opposite things, so I don't know what to think - I just do what works for me - you need to do the same, as everyone's body chemistry is different. You could try herbs such as Saw Palmetto which is typically used for men with prostrate problems - it may counter the estrogen effect - but again; read up and study BEFORE taking anything!
