The only way to positively diagnose endometriosis is to have a laparoscopy. This is a non-invasive surgery where they make two tiny incisions to go in & look for the growth in your pelvic area.

All of the above links give more information on the diagnoses & treatment of endometriosis.

Your symptoms sound like they could well be endo -- and I urge you to talk to your doctor about the laparoscopy. If she is unwilling, search for a specialist in your area. I can't find the link for the specialist list, but I know someone has it.

I agree about the dysmenorrhea -- the definition of that is "painful periods." So if your periods are painful, you obviously have it -- it doesn't take a specialist to diagnose that.

Good luck to you in finding a doctor who will listen to you.

Please keep us updated.

I think that I have endo and I don't do what to do. I have had an abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, and also an endoscopy. All of the test were negative. For the last 3 periods I have had a tremendous pain in my lower right side, that at times seems like it is spasming. During my cycle i also experience nausea & diarrhea. Sometimes through the month and during my cycle I have pelvic pain. I am constantly fatigued and in a lot of pain. This last period my right sided pain has persisted past the week of my period. There are times when my whole right side seems incredibly stiff and makes it hard to walk. I have seen a GI specialist for dyspepsia and heartburn. After the endoscopy he stated to be that I probably have IBS. I informed him that my symtoms tend to start near my cycle and he also stated that I could have endo. I have been to see my gyn and she stated that I could have dysmenorrhea, and talked to me about the treatments for endo. That she prefers to start with the medical treatment ie bc, depo-provera and lupron before she will do any surgery. I am not wanting surgery but what do you do when you don't know what is wrong. My gyn stated be back on bc pills and naproxyn 1 week before and during my cycle. I just want to know why I am so sick all of the time. I have heavy bleeding at the begininng of my cycle. Everything I have read makes me believe that i possibly have endo. Ther are times when I am in so much pain, it is difficult to stand or sit or drive. Please help...
