Thanks to you All-Rather Long, I'm afraidFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Oct 8 22:10:51 2000
Since August I have been a some-time contributor to this forum, and a frequent reader of the posts. I had just been diagnosed when I began here, and in two days time I will have my ovaries, tubes and scar tissue removed, having had my uterus out for a different reason years ago. I am 47 and feel that after much research, advice and soul-searching this is the answer for me. The purpose of this message is to thank all of you who have answered my queries, corrected my mis-information, encouraged me when I was fearful and in general just 'been there.' As I read down through the titles of your posts, some of which I do not read, I am struck by how many of us are afflicted with this condition and have had our bodies handled, tested, and operated on, and how you have been able to do it with such dignity and optimism in the face of what is sometimes excruciating pain. When I was first diagnosed and went back to work and saw my friends, naturally the first thing asked after the laproscopy was what was wrong with me. I'd start out by saying, "Well, the good news is it's not cancer . . ." and continue on. And I must remember that that is indeed the good news. We are all suffering, in varying degrees, and it is very easy to fall into the mode of 'any disease but this disease'. But I have made an effort, with all of your help, to remember that I am indeed lucky to live in the age I do when there is some help available. How our grandmothers and their mothers must have suffered when they encountered endometriosis. So, thank you one and all for your help and support. I plan to be well after this surgery - I have set my mind on it. And I also plan to continue to read the posts and contribute if I can. Good luck to all of us!
