Re: Endo..From: anonymous@obgyn.netSat Sep 30 09:36:14 2000
Tammy, I am so sorry to hear that you too have endometriosis (endo for short). I take it you had a laparoscopy and this is how you found out? I know what you are going through, my heart goes out to you ((((Hugs)))) and I acted exactly the same way you are. I am 33 and was diagnosed with it earlier this month and I was an absolute mess I was depressed and scared to death. I was ready to let them do a complete hysterectomy on me until I found this forum. I take it that since you thought you had PID, you are in a lot of pain? There are several websites out there that you can read up on this disease, one in which is the endometriosis association ( http://www.endocenter.org) which has a lot of information and you can also contact them to get involved in a support group in your area. I know that none of this is very comforting at the moment, but as you gather information and actually read the other posts - you will learn a lot and you won't feel so alone. You're not alone, we're all here for you. You said that this has almost ruined your marriage, is this because of the pain you've been going through? I know at first my husband wasn't very understanding, he thought I was being lazy and never seemed to want him anymore, but I just started printing stories of these women who have endo and every article I could find on it. He got a better understanding of the pain that I was in - that it wasn't him at all, it was the endo. The first thing you need to do is find a good doctor that specializes in endometriosis. There are many options you will have to consider to try and control your endo. What I have learned from these kind and loving women on this board is that what works great for one person, doesn't for the other. You can go on birth control, Synarel, Lupron, Zoladex (sp), try and have an "endo specialist" remove the endo and some women resort to total hysterectomies - But each woman is different. The type of treatment you choose will also be based on how & where the endo is. Do you know where your endo is located and what Stage you are? The above options are only a few treatment options that I know of that are out there. Endometriosis is where the endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus (why? nobody really knows exactly why) it grows within your abdominal cavity, the extent of where and how much there is depends on the stage you are. The tissue grows and is basically fed by the hormones your body produces, this is why the pain usually gets more intense as you get closer to your period, though some women have constant pain. If you have any specific questions, I can surely try and answer them better than this general answer. Please know that you are now alone, though the board seems slow tonight, please know that how you're feeling now is normal and it will get easier to deal with, we are all hear to help you through. Please feel free to email me personally, if you would rather. Big Hugs to you and my prayers will be with you and hopes for a Pain Free Day to you. Kelli
