A question for Belle about pain medsFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Sep 22 00:22:19 2000
Hi Belle, I have a question for you about the use of pain meds. The reason that I am asking this question is b/c my mother and other endo sisters that I've met on other boards have asked me how I know which meds to use to control my vulvar pain. I have 3 meds that I use to try to control the pain in that area. They are: xylocaine (to take care of the pain that needs some help but it doesn't need anything strong like the anti-inflammatory drug), Ponstel (for the pain that the xylocaine ointment didn't touch), and the Lorcet (for the most severe pain that doesn't get relieved from the Ponstel b/c it's at the severest point). My first question is: How often does it occur that your pain starts at moderate and then maybe skips all the way to the severest point, or does it stay at the severe level often? Second question is: How soon after each level of intensity of pain do you take the pain meds? I ask this b/c I just want to find an easy way to explain this to the others who may ask me. I'm very thankful that my ob/gyn doesn't have a problem giving me all of the pain meds that I need to take care of the problem. Do you happen to have any links in your bookmarks of things that point to articles that explain why patients with chronic pain shouldn't be denied pain meds when they ask drs for it. I have a friend who said that she had to show some stuff like that to one of her drs but she never told me where she got the information. I hope that the afternoon is a good one for you, and I've enjoyed watching the Olympics especially the swimming competition. May your day be as pain free as possible. Kristy :)
