I am 33 yrs old and have had pain since the birth of my 2nd son 5 years ago. First let me say that now that I have been diagnosed with endometriosis, I feel blessed that I have the two children I have.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis on September 7, 2000. My doctor did not remove any of the endo because it encompasses my entire abdomen and as he stated "it would be a very extensive surgery". So he wants to put me on Lupron for 6 months, then birth control pills to follow. Well being one that always has those unusal or rare side effects to drugs - I read up on this Lupron and it's side effect. I have decided NO WAY am I taking that chance when it only masks the problem and doesn't cure it.

When I questioned the Dr. about my options he made a comment that I am too young for a hysterectomy, and that this is the best course of action at this time. My question is If I have used these body parts for what they were meant for (2 lovely children)and do not plan on any other children, then why not (regardless of my age) fix the problem rather than mask the problem? I understand it will be an extensive surgery, but 5 years down the road if it continues to progress - wouldn't the outcome be the same (a hysterectomy)and a more extensive surgery at that time with the more of a chance that they couldn't remove all of the endometriosis in my abdominal cavity?

Am I crazy to think this? I think if I were a man with advanced prostate cancer - I would take the risk of going on Luprin, but to take that risk to mask a problem???

I would love to hear from someone on this.

Thank you and bless you all.
