Re: (Margaret) Teens/Young Women with Endo. IntroductionFrom: Lila (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Sep 1 07:32:36 2000
Margaret, My heart goes out to you and your daughter. I am sure this has been rough on your whole family and it is definitly not something I would wish on any woman (much less a teenager). I agree that it is time for a new doctor. My doctor is in Oak Creek (south side Milwaukee) and I would be happy to forward his info to you, if you would like. I've been seeing him for over 10 years. Otherwise, the Endometriosis Association is right here in Milwaukee and you can get a list through them of specialists. Feel free to drop me a line anytime. Introduction Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 16:20:43 -0500 My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with endometriosis when she was fifteen. She spent her entire sophomore year in pain. Her periods lasted three weeks with only one week off in between. The hardest thing for me as a parent has been watching her personality change. She was athletic, popular out going, full of energy and happy. Now she is sad, lonely and depressed. I am afraid she will never be the same again. The surgery(June 2000) was not successful and her pain was back in five weeks, despite the birth control pills. She got her drivers license shortly before her surgery and we can't let her drive because of the hydrocodone she takes for pain. Eighteen days ago she received her first Lupron injection. The side effects started in about eight days and included hot flashes, headaches, vaginal dryness, mild acne and extreme mood swings and irritability. After several phone calls to the Doctor we went in and he actually asked her if this was because of the medication or was she having boyfriend troubles or not getting along with mom!!!!!!!! I can't believe the man who opened her up and found this awful disease could be so cold and uncaring as to ask her that. Her response was, my mom has been helpful and supportive and she doesn't let me feel sorry for myself. Her boyfriend is going to college in a few days and that will be hard because she is only a junior in high school and he has been so good for her and to her, through this. She could not have gotten through this without him. So, after hearing her talk, Doc prescribed add back therapy, Premarin 1.25mg/day. Is it too early for this? I do not want to aggravate the endo with estrogen. Also, how do we find a really good doctor? We are between Chicago and Milwaukee, about an hour away from both. Thanks. Margaret Torgerson
