Re: Endometriosis? (SHAWN)From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Jul 28 11:33:35 2000
I agree -- a years infection is not an STD -- it can happen with no sexual involvement, and some people are more prone to it than others. If left untreated, it can develop into a serious problem. Also -- endometriosis is not contagious. It is a painful & debilitating disease that affects millions of women. It makes us moody, causes sever pain that limits our lifestyles, we are subjected to all kinds of drug treatments -- I am currently getting monthly shots of Lupron that is putting me through menopause (I'm 23), and it makes sex painful -- for some of us, so painful that it's not even fun anymore. Again -- for the yeast infection -- I am not a doctor, but I never heard of passing an infection along like that. A yeast infection is just a bacterial infection. It can be brought on by sex, but I don't know about passed. Tell your new GF to go to the doctor. That's the only way to get a really accurate diagnosis. He'll probably do a culture (non-invasive & painless) & prescribe some antibiotics for her if that's what it is. Also -- if you're not circumcised, and/or not really really careful about washing your penis, you can be causing your gf's to develop them by introducing the bacteria to them. My best friend from high school got chronic yeast infections that wouldn't go away, and they finally figured out it was because her BF wasn't washing under the foreskin as carefully as he should. He started paying more attention to that, and her problem disappeared. -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Friday, July 28, 2000 4:30 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ENDO Subject: Re: Endometriosis? Hi Shawn, Well I wouldn't classify a yeast infection as an STD persay, although it can be passed sexually. Your former girlfriend could be prone to yeast infections from her endometriosis or from the medication she takes for it. Certainly there is a question as to why she (former GF) cannot get rid of hers with antibiotic treatment but sometimes Endometriosis can play a role with ones immune system. Are you sure what you have is a yeast infection? What are your symptoms? I would think that antibiotics and a follow up to both yours and your new girlfriends doctors following a course of antibiotics would be in order. I wish you luck. Hope it clears once and for all. SOmetimes it takes more than one or a different antibiotic to clear these things up. I have only encountered two infections in my lifetime, both times due to taking antibiotics for another type of infection. I think a yeast infection left untreated or in severe cases can cause a UTI (uterine tract infection) and then bladder or kidney infections. A simple blood or urine test can tell a doctor what needs to be done. Again Good Luck and God Bless RareEndo
