Re: A question for Kathie about continous bcp treatmentFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jan 11 05:48:54 2000
Kathie, The ortho-cyclen has the same amount of estrogen in it that the Desogen, Ortho-cept, and Lo/Ovral have in it if I remember correctly. I must tell you that it will probably take your body about 6 months or a little longer to fully adjust to being on continuous. I'm not sure if your dr told you that or not, but the gyn who I had at the time that put me on it didn't warn me that it would take about that long for my body to adjust to it. I love continuous now, but I just don't like the breakthrough bleeding. The Ovral has done wonderful for me. It's even higher than all of the pills that I listed. It has 50 mcgs of the estrogen and it has done good at keeping the bleeding away. Only thing was that I got a yeast infection that caused me to bleed some and it has now finally stopped. As for the gyn that put me on continuous back in 1997, I no longer have him. The other thing that I noticed with being on continuous is that after 3 months of being on it the PMS type mood swings that I used to get were gone. In those first few months I also used to get nausea just like I would when I would get ready for my period, but then I started eating about 15 to 30 minutes before I took my pill and that has helped a lot. I hope that this helps, and I'm always available if you have any questions or need to talk about any concerns that you may have about continuous.
