The majority of the time, a lump will be benign...but it's great that you have a proactive ob/gyn, regardless of what they find. I've had a 1-2.5 cm lump for years now that several dr's have felt, but since it wasn't noticed on ultrasound, nothing was everdone, because I was always told I'm too young to get breast cancer (I'm 39!!) and my family history isn't significant because my mother hasn't been diagnosed with it (though both grandmothers, 2 aunts and a 38 y/o cousin have!)Right now, I'm being referred to gyn/oncology for a complex ovarian cyst, mostly solid, that's been there for 2 months now and they say could possibly be malignant, so I definitely know how anxious you must be feeling right now. It's so hard having to wait to find out anything!! I hope we both get some good news.
Take care! Megan
