sore nipple

I recently discovered that my left nipple is sore to touch. I also noticed at the time that it is redder and looks bigger (swollen - perhaps?) than my other nipple. I would say it feels and looks to be inflamed. I noticed it a week ago and have been paying closer attention to it the last few days. I think its getting better, however, it the soreness is still there. I plan on seeing my doctor if it doesn't seem to be getting any better by next week. Just wondering if you culd enlighten me with what you think it may be. I run approx. 50 minutes a day, so maybe sweat has something to do with it. It is not chapping and there is definitely no discharge. its just sore. I go regulary for all my check-ups which include mamograms (I'm 38 years old and have had two mamos since the age of 35 (only as a precautionary measure to note any changes that may appear when I reach 40 years of age and older) Everything has always come back normal.

I greatly appreciate your time and thoughts in answering my concerns.
