Dear Anon- Your mother in law is absolutely in need of a good breast exam and mammogram. Her symptoms of underarm pain, while possibly due to any number of causes, may be related to the breast. There is no reason to delay the mammogram and exam, I agree. Hannah Brooks, MD, FACS
