Dear Jessy-

Your doctor is correct in that lymph nodes can swell due to active fibrocystic breast condition. Tender lumps are usually not cancerous...but in rare instances , they can be. That is not any reason for you to worry. The breast and lymph node should be imaged with sonogram and mammogram, and observed for a bried period of time. If either lump persists, then further testing is in order. Hannah Brooks, MD, FACS
