bleeding from one nipple

I am 39 and a few days ago after taking a shower I realized I was bleeding from one nipple. It stopped after awhile and didn't hurt. Yesterday I went to the doctor and she tried to get it to bleed again but nothing came out. She didn't feel any lumps. I am now scheduled for my first mammogram next week and then have an appt. to speak with a surgeon. What could this be? I am extremely worried. Thank-you.
