I am 43 and was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer last October. I had a lumpectomy, sentinal node biopsy (clean nodes), chemo, and am currently doing radiation. Because my mother had ovarian cancer and because my cancer was estrogen receptive, my medical oncologist recommends removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes by laprascopic surgery. My ob/gyn argues that I should have a full surgical hysterectomy because (1) I don't need the uterus and could develop problems with it later (e.g., bleeding) and (2) an abdominal surgical removal of the ovaries will be more likely to completely remove the ovaries and pedicles than the lapracopic procedure. I can't seem to find any information related to which procedure to choose. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated!
