-Dear Maria- It's most likely that you've got a hematoma (collection of blood) in the breast due to trauma. Ice packs may help stop the bleeding and slow the increase in size. The bleeding may reach a point where it creates enough pressure within the tissue to stop on it's own. A snug support bra may help, and will also provide support so you have less pain while moving or sleeping. It may be you recently took aspirin or ibuprofen--both can cause more bleeding than usual due to antiplatelet activity. Avoid them over the next few days. If the mass continues to get larger over the next minutes to hours, do not hesitate to go to an ER...bleeding CAN be quite significant and serious. Good luck. Hello, This afternoon I hit my right breast on the right side against my daughters crib as I leaned over to kiss her. The pain was sharp and brief. I had tenderness which a few hours later turned into a huge painful lump taking up approximately 1/4 of my breast. I don't want to rush out to the ER because I'd have to take my 4 month old daughter and I don't want to unnecessarily expose her to people who could possibly be sick. What should I do?
