Dear Sheri- Although the symptoms you describe are most often associated with symptomatic fibrocystic breast condition, your family history and the fact that you have undiagnosed lumps are of concern. First, you should get the pathology report of the tissue that was already removed from your breast during the mammoplasty. This can be obtained from the pathology department of the hospital in which your operation took place. If the procedure was done in another setting, you must get this report from your plastic surgeon. All tissue removed is sent to pathology. The information about your breast tissue may be important regarding your risk of cancer. If your father's sisters had breast cancer before menopause, you should begin screening earlier than 40. Also, it is wrong for a mammogram to be skipped, since in your particular case the mammogram is a 'diagnostic' study (i.e. you are having symptoms and need to be checked); it is NOT a 'screening' mammogram, which is done on asymptomatic women. The mammogram may be hard to read in someone your age, since the tissue is denser at your age; nevertheless, you must still have mammogram and sonogram done to take a look at the breast tissue. Once this is done, have a breast specialist examine you, look at the studies and review your pathology reports. He or she may send the discharge for testing and/or aspirate or biopsy the lumps that are felt on exam. Good luck. Hello, thank you for taking time to read and respond to my concens. I am 30 years old, 31 in a week. My concern is that for a couple of months, I have been experiencing sore breasts. Nothing much more than soreness until recently. Now I have burning pain in my right breast. Very painful with green liquid discharge. My physician felt a moveable lump in my breasts while palpating at a recent visit to check on the symptoms I have mentioned. Breast cancer runs on my father's side of the family. I also have itching on the right breast. In addition, a year ago, I had breast surgery, my breasts were lifted, and relifted last March. My physician ordered an ultrasound and told me that my breasts are not mature enough for a mammogram. I'm wondering what information you may be able to share with me, and if there is something I might be missing?

Thank you very much,

Sheri
