Dear Peggy- First of all, I'm sure you were told there was nothing to worry about. This is all sounding like benign tissue. There are many breast websites that have 'glossaries' if you need more information on terms (try imaginis.com or cancer.org or oncolink.edu ) In any case, this report indicates that the tissue removed showed tissue that was recently traumatized. If the surgery was done for a lump in the breast, the lump probably was caused by some injury to the breast. You may have injured the breast with or without your knowledge. The fact that there is no 'atypia' or malignant' cells simply means there is no sign of cancer. Hannah Brooks, MD,FACS

Dr Hannah, I had a breast biopsy done on November 20th and received the pathology report from the surgeon today. I don't quite understand what it means. It says Fibrofatty Breast tissue showing congestion and focal fat necrosis. What exactly does this mean? It said that the speciman submitted is negative for Epithelial Atypia or Malignancy. Thank you for your time Peggy
