breast lump at young age

hi everyone...

i have a doctor's appointment on friday because i found a lump in my breast a while ago... i'm thinking that it's a fibroadenoma - it's hard, smooth, and oval-shaped (about an inch and a half), and moves easily, and there's no pain or real discomfort. i haven't noticed any change in size or shape in the past few months.

i guess i should have gotten it checked out sooner (it's been over 6 months since i noticed it), but i was terrified :\ we have a history of breast cancer in our family... and I was too scared to even find out if that's what it was or not :\

i'm 21 now. i was wondering if fibroadenomas are usually removed for someone who's still young, or if they're just left alone and monitored. i'm scared about undergoing surgery, and i'd rather not unless it was necessary.

also, is there any sort of association between fibroadenomas/cysts and nipple piercings? i'd noticed the lump before i got the piercing, though, so i don't think they're related, but i was still curious, because they're on the same breast.

thanks very much for your help :)
