Hi. I live overseas and feel somewhat uncertain about the doctors' diagnosis here. About 5 months ago I went to see the doctor because I felt a lump in the outer portion of my left breast. The lump felt relatively smooth and movable and was about 3/4 of an inch in diameter. The doctor, a breast surgeon, palpitated my breasts and then sent me in for a mammogram and a breast sonogram. The results of the tests were normal, and the doctor sent me on my way, saying that I had fibrocystic, lumpy breasts. The news was a relief and I didn't worry until recently. The lump has not gone away and appears to have increased in size. It is quite distinct from the general lumpiness of my breast and is visible under the skin if I lie on my right side and let my breast fall to my right side. It continues to be movable. I asked my gynecologist here to have a quick look at it (she has sonography equipment in her office) and she said that the lump appeared to be regular breast tissue and was not a cyst. She recommended that I watch it for a while.
Everyday I get more nervous about this lump. I friend advised me to have it biopsied and I've called the breast surgeon back to see what he can do. Is it possible for this lump to be benign and simply fibrocystic breast changes. As I read more on the internet I hear that fibrocystic changes are usually associated with a general lumpiness (which I also have) not with a discreete movable, solid breast lump. Please help, I am 39 years old.
Thanks
