Dear Tammy--

Any discharge, especially if from one breast and bloody, should be investigated. From your description, the greenish discharge may indicate a cyst that is spontaneously draining from a duct, a local infection, or old blood. If the discharge is truly bloody, then a small growth, most often a benign one, can be present in the affected duct. Bloody discharge is often associated with a duct papilloma (a wart-like growth; less often, it may indicate a small cancer. Hannah Brooks, MD,FACS

I am 29 years old and recently (within a week) have started having a bloodly discharge from my left nipple. It was first noticed by a dime sized spot of blood in my bra. Since then it has sometimes happened spontaniously, but more often if pressure is applied. Just this morning I noticed that there was also a green discharge if pressured from another angle as if it was coming from a different duct. There isn't any pain mostly, just an occasional ache. My right breast sometimes has a milky/clear discharge and only if pressure is applied.
