Dear TW- Breast calcifications can indicate an underlying malignancy about 10- 40% of the time. There is still a good chance these calcifications will be associated with a benign (i.e. noncancerous) process. Nevertheless, it is important that you follow up with the biopsy to determine this. Try to keep in mind that even if these calcifications do turn out to be associated with a breast cancer, the chance that you've caught it at its earliest, most curable, stage is very high. Stay positive and good luck with the outcome. I just received the results from my second mammogram. They are suggesting a breast biopsy to be done immediately. I have had thyroid cancer and have been clean for 13 years. I am scared to death. How common is the calcification to be cancerous.
