Dear Karen-

It is not unusual for a lymph node to remain enlarged for a few months after "trauma"--in your case the minor surgery--to the breast. These enlarged lymph nodes are called "reactive" lymph nodes. If this persists for a prolonged period of time (greater than three months after the last surgery) and if the lymph node enlarges or has not been shrinking, then you should have it checked. Hello,

I was hoping someone could help me with some advice on where/what to do now. In the last 8 months I have had 2 biopsies <both benign thank God>, one on each breast for 'suspicious' areas. Since December I've had an enlarged lymph node in the axilla, very close to my breast, and a post-op mammogram and ultrasound done in January showed it was an enlarged lymph node. My question is, should I be concerned as to why it is enlarged? I haven't been ill recently, and it doesn't seem to be returning to normal. My GP says to not worry about it, but for some reason its nagging at me that it isn't shrinking down.

Thanks,

Karen
